Philantrophy

"Philanthropy" comes from the Greek philo ("love") and anthropos ("humanity," or "people"). Most simply, it's defined as giving time, money and resources to make life better for other people.

Philantrophy is why the Clubhouse exists

The Clubhouse only exists because of the generous contributions of time, energy, resources, and material by our local community.

Between the idea of building the clubhouse and opening its door in 2023 over 12 years have passed, overcoming a multitude of obstacles and successfully moving through all the various project stages. The people involved in this project have moved mountains.

This includes over $500,000 in donated labour and materials by our wonderful community, on top of $140k from the federal government and $100k from council, $50 K from Stockland, $25K from the state Gaming Fund and 20K from Anembo Consultants.  A special thanks to our Pro-bono solicitor Andrew Davis who donated all of his time over 18 months to win our case in the planning and environment court. 

So the understanding of what it means to give is literally built into the very foundation of the WindanSea.

Philantrophy is what we pass on

Now that the Clubhouse 'project' is open and running and being used by a variety of different clubs, groups and businesses, this can be truly marked as a very successful, and unique milestone for a volunteer organisation. Being open and operational also means shifting from being the receiving party to the one who pays it forward.

The WindanSea Community Clubhouse is a Not-for-Profit organisation. Beyond covering the costs of maintaining the Clubhouse building and functionality to a high standard all profits from the Clubhouse income are reviewed by the WindanSea executive for philantrophic opportunities towards local surfers, surf clubs, and our health and wellbeing community related sponsorship opportunities.

The profits are then dispersed by the Clubhouse in the form of sponsorships, discounts, and financial gifts, and provision of equipment.

Philantrophy in action

Since opening it’s doors in 2023 the Clubhouse has generously contributed to and supported the following organisations/ causes:

  1. Branded Marquee and flags to the Caloundra Women Surfers group

  2. $1500 donation + 5 huge Bean Bags to the Currimundi Special School

  3. Over 10K per annum of clubhouse hire discounts to Health & Wellbeing microbusinesses
