Caloundra, since 1973

WindanSea Boardriders Caloundra is the club that proudly gets to call the WindanSea Clubhouse home. With a longstanding history of over five decades it is the only WindanSea Surf Club chapter left outside the United States, carrying on the iconic name of the WindanSea Surf Club, La Jolla, CA (more here).

With 170+ members, more than half of them juniors, the club runs monthly comps, junior training and hosts the iconic Pa & Ma Bendall Memorial Contest every Easter, which has launched the careers of surfers like 2012 world champion Joel Parkinson.

The WindanSea Boardriders & the Clubhouse

In 2011, members of the WindanSea Boardriders Caloundra set out on a project that would take over a decade of dedication, resilience and patience: a clubhouse to call home. A committed team of WindanSea Boardriders and local community members gave their time, skills and often their own materials to the build, navigating years of council process, including a win in the Planning Court, before construction could finally begin in 2022.

In 2023, the WindanSea Community Clubhouse officially opened its doors. Since then, it has become an integral part of the club’s DNA whilst serving the wider local surfing community and giving aligned local businesses a place to offer their services and host events.
