WindanSea Centre for Surfing Excellence

We're working toward the Clubhouse's next chapter:

A Centre for Surfing Excellence in Caloundra, where surfers, schools and sporting teams from Australia and around the world come to learn, train and grow, at our legendary Ann Street Surf break.

The history of the WindanSea is not only rich in stories and ambition but has produced World, Australian, Queensland, and Sunshine Coast men’s and women’s champions.

The Vision for Caloundra

Caloundra has a remarkable surf legacy, sought after by surfers for generations and home to numerous surfing competitions over the decades. Since 2023 the WindanSea Clubhouse has established itself as a community hub for surfing in Caloundra.

However, the goal is to expand further: a Centre for Surfing Excellence based around the Clubhouse.

In partnership with other local key stakeholders the Clubhouse intends on offering coaching, camps and development programs attracting surf groups from all across Australia.

The vision is achievable. Consistent, competitive surf breaks, the Clubhouse facility and more than fifty years of club experience are already here. By linking up with the right partners, WindanSea Community Clubhouse can make this a base where visiting groups have everything they need to make the most of their time in the water and out.

Centre for Surfing Excellence: The Outlook

From beginner lessons to competition training, the Centre would bring together:

  • Surf coaching for juniors, adults and developing competitors, led by qualified coaches.

  • School camps combining surf skills, ocean safety and outdoor learning.

  • Team camps for pre- and post-season training and team-building, for surf and non-surf teams alike.

  • Development pathways supporting surfers from local to state and national level, with coaching and judging courses along the way.

Sunshine Coast Recreation Precinct

The WindanSea Clubhouse doesn't have its own accommodation, and luckily it doesn't need to.

With the Sunshine Coast Recreation Precinct in Currimundi close by already hosting school camps, sporting tournaments and training camps, it’s the ideal accommodation provider to team up with.

It offers the required accommodation, dining and accessible facilities, including all-terrain wheelchairs for beach access. It's also an alcohol-free, fully accessible environment, which makes it a good fit for school and junior groups.

Together, that means groups could stay at the Precinct and train, learn and surf at the Clubhouse.

Current Progress

WindanSea is working with Surfing Queensland, the state's peak body for surfing, to explore the opportunity and shape the Centre so it fits into the wider pathway for Queensland surfers.

This is a determined plan in progress. Conversations with partners are underway, and more will be shared here as things take shape. Schools, clubs, coaches and sporting teams interested in what the Centre could offer are welcome to get in touch.

There’s one thing worth remembering: WindanSea and its partners came together and planned and built the Clubhouse over a ten year period. With the same dedication, commitment, patience and perseverance, there's no doubt this vision will become a reality too.
