the WindanSea
The 2032 Olympics are coming to the Sunshine Coast's doorstep, and the WindanSea and the Caloundra surf community, with a proud history spanning more than fifty years, are ready and hopeful to play (and surf) a part.
The history of the WindanSea is not only rich in stories and ambition but also produced some well renowned names such as Joel Parkinson, Serena Brooke, and Wade Goodall.
Caloundra - A prime location for 2032
Moffat Beach has hosted elite competitive surfing for decades, it's where the second-longest-running surf contest in Australia is decided every year (read full story here).
Since 2023, that pedigree has had a home of its own: our purpose-built Community Clubhouse, sitting right on the break.
Alongside the Sunshine Coast's other popular quality breaks, Noosa, Alexandra Headland, Coolum, Point Cartwright, Moffat Beach is already on the radar as a possible home for Olympic surfing, with a clubhouse, volunteer base and event experience eager to host.
Where things stand for 2032
Surfing isn't yet confirmed as a discipline for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. That decision sits with the IOC and is expected later in 2026, and no locations, on the Sunshine Coast or anywhere else, have been locked in.
We'll keep this page updated as the picture becomes clearer.
Our vision: A home for Olympic-level training
Confirmed sport or not, our ambition is clear: we want this clubhouse to become a training base for international-level Olympic surf teams in the lead-up to 2032, and to build on that legacy long after the closing ceremony. It's a natural fit, the break, the facility, and the club's track record for running serious competitions are already here.
And there's more than one way to contribute. That could mean opening the clubhouse for public viewing events, backing junior development pathways, lending volunteers to a torch relay or legacy programme, or being the local face of Caloundra's surf community as the world's eyes turn to Queensland.
It also means leadership beyond our own break — sharing what we've learned building a purpose-built surf community clubhouse from the ground up with others looking to do the same, or including emerging international surf communities.
Whatever opportunities there are, the WindanSea is prepping to get involved.
